			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Running is one of the most popular sports in the world, enjoyed by millions of athletes from all parts of the world.  People enjoy running as way to maintain fitness and heart health, stay at a healthy weight, and know personal achievement when they are able to run marathons, half marathons, and 5Ks and get to the finish line.  Some people like to push themselves hard, running for speed and to break their own or other runners&#8217; time records.  Most people who run on a regular basis truly develop a love of this form of exercise and cite the feeling they get from running, and the time alone with their thoughts is worth the rigorous challenge of building up to a good level.  Then, there are those who should not be running at all, but don&#8217;t know it yet.  They are like ticking time bombs from a health perspective for a variety of reasons.<span id="more-107"></span></p>
<p>Some people have heart conditions that are undetected, or congenital heart defects that have not been discovered yet, and unfortunately, these people seldom learn that running might be dangerous to them until they find out the hard way.  Another thing to watch out for is long term obesity combined with diabetes;  this combination can lead to substantially more sports related injuries than people who are in shape risk incurring.  For the most part, running does pose a risk to marathon runners, but not usually to people who simply run a few times a week for exercise, for one mile or less.  Here is one video about this:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Women and men are different in a lot of ways, as we all know &#8212; but when it comes to running, there are some pretty stark statistical differences between men and women that might surprise you.  For example, about 80% of women runners spent more than $100 per year on running clothes last year, but only about 77% of men reported having done so.  More men than women began running in order to increase their overall fitness, while less women than men began to combat or prevent weight gain.  The comparisons don&#8217;t stop there, either.  Let&#8217;s take a look at some of the statistical information collected from runners of both sexes to see what other differences there are.<span id="more-100"></span></p>
<p>In this graphic image, you can compare several factors of men and women who run, including the average BMI score for each sex, how much they spend on running shoes, and how long they&#8217;ve been running.  The wheel on the infographic goes into a little more detail about runner&#8217;s history with the sport.  It&#8217;s all very interesting stuff for running fans to know, so enjoy.</p>

		<title>Run At Happy Hour</title>

<p>I like to get the workday off of my mind just like the next guy, but instead of going to a restaurant or bar for happy hour after work, I choose to run.  My daily happy hour run does more for me than even I can understand.  Not only is it better for my body physically than having a couple drinks and some not-so healthy appetizers, but it is also mentally freeing.  So why do I choose to run for happy hour?</p>
<ol>
<li>I can relax easier at night.  Most people like to think that a couple of drinks will take the edge off and help to encourage relaxation.  That is actually the opposite.  After I run though, I can get all of my thoughts out of my head so when I make it home I am really in a relaxed state.  I will light some <a href="http://www.legalherbsdirect.com/">happy hour incense</a>, and chill out better than anyone who went out for drinks and snacks.</li>
<li>My pants fit, perfectly.  Thanks to my daily runs, I don&#8217;t have to worry about an expanding waistline like many of my co-workers who choose to venture out a couple times a week for martinis and cheese fries.  I don&#8217;t have to feel bloated or full because I run, I respect my body and what I put into it.</li>
<li>I am happier.  We have all heard it before, exercise produces endorphins, and endorphins make you happy.  I am really happy then.  I might not get to share in all the after work conversations with friends or even co-workers, but I have found that would be one of the last things I would need.  I need to run.</li>
</ol>
<p>Running allows me to get the day off my chest and get over it.  I love running for the simple reason that it keeps me calm, healthy, and happy.  It can do that for you too.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>While I was searching for some new training tips over the weekend, I found an infographic that taught me a few things I never realized before.  For example, did you know that one lap around the standard sized track is only 1/4 mile?  I never would have guessed that because, to me, running a whole lap around a track seems a lot farther than that.  Granted, I&#8217;m new to running.  I haven&#8217;t even worked out getting through a whole mile without having to stop yet, but this gives me a whole new respect for those people who run track or do track and field sports as their main activity.  <span id="more-88"></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Training for a marathon can be rewarding as well as difficult, but even beginners can prepare themselves for the endurance required to finish a marathon.  It takes a long time, and no small amount of dedication.  Training for a marathon is one of the most rigorous things a runner will ever do.  Your training should involve days of alternate difficulty and distance in order to prevent injuries and keep you from abandoning your goals.</p>
<p>As you delve into marathon training, being able to identify the different types of training days and how they relate to your upcoming race is important. A good training plan should address your specific limitations, providing a gradual increase of stress through intensity or volume.  Without the right plan, most runners will increase those elements much too rapidly. The result can be  injury or burnout.  A runner must keep a consistent practice of training, and that is unfortunately the first thing to go when an injury is sustained that requires interruption in training.   The best way to avoid this is by taking the steps necessary to avoid injuries before they occur.</p>
<p>On easy days, you should be sure to stick to the recommended pace, even though you might be tempted to push yourself harder.  There&#8217;s a reason behind this wisdom, and trusting in it will take you far.  Likewise, on hard days, you should be striving to completely push your limits.  You have to really get out there and make it burn, because this, combined with the alternating easy days, helps set your body up for the endurance needed to complete a marathon in a reasonable amount of time without giving up.</p>
<p>One of the most important things to remember is that when you ease into your workout, starting off easy and gradually building up to a good pace and level of endurance, you stand a much better chance of having lasting results. You can consider the training to have value, whether you are in an early stage or advanced.</p>
<p>Keeping these things in mind will help you prepare for one of the most rewarding events of a runner&#8217;s life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>British centenarian Fauja Singh has become the oldest person ever to run a marathon.  The title was won during a marathon held in Toronto over the weekend.  After a personal tragedy in which his wife and one of his sons died ten years ago, Singh took up running at the age of 89.  He has since take world records in several over-90 categories around the world.  Singh credits his good health to a diet of curries and tea, not smoking, and avoiding alcohol.  And of course, running.<span id="more-78"></span></p>
<p>Watch the video below to learn more about Singh&#8217;s marvelous accomplishment and adventurous life.  This should easily inspire anyone who thinks he or she is too old to take up running to give it a try.  Always check with your doctor before starting any new exercise regimen, especially if you have disease or are of advanced age.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The first Corvallis Half Marathon, which attracted more than 1,700 runners, kicked off to a great start. We&#8217;d like to thank especially  Race Director Tyler Childers, who devised the idea for the half marathon and had the vision and organizational talent to make it happen. It was a huge success, and we look forward to the repeat in April 2012.<span id="more-73"></span></p>
<p>Each runner had a race chip laced onto his or her shoe as they all set off running.  Shortly after winner Michael Wisniewski crossed the finish line, the results were made public and available for people to view. They contained the place, race number, name, age, sex, age group, city of residence, state, nettime, guntime and pace for the first 50 runners who made this a major accomplishment.  Congratulations to the finishers!</p>
